Why do we have Pancake Day?
Well Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday and, in French, Mardi Gras, is traditionally a feasting day as it is the day before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday when many people choose to give something up for 40 days.
And Liverpool is no exception. All over the city people will be with their family and friends enjoying these savoury treats. Many will be staying in, but if you’re choosing to eat out this year, then we’ve compiled a simple list of the best places to grab a pancake.
Moose Coffee is not only serving up some incredibly appetizing pancakes this year, they’re also extending their opening hours to 6 pm – which is just one more reason to love Pancake Day this year.

Tucked away in the leafy Mossley Hill suburb and perfectly situated near many South Liverpool schools, Relish is a perfect south Liverpool destination for an after-school Pancake Day treat.
They have great American style pancakes served up as part of their Brunch and Brekkie menu. You can keep it simple and with strawberries and syrup, or go for something more exotic, the choice is yours.

Allerton Roads quirky new eatery is able to host all kinds of great days all year round – from family sized events children’s pancake parties. So it comes as no surprise that Pancake Day is their favourite time of year.
They will be serving American pancakes and crepes throughout the day with more potential toppings than you could think to imagine. They even have gluten-free options available and work closely with Coeliac UK to expand their product range safely.
Brasco Lounge, Mann Island
Triple-stacked buttermilk pancakes – does a better sentence exist? We think not, and neither does the Brasco Lounge. Their vegan, gluten-free menu is chocked full of inspiration that is sure to leave you satisfied.
They also have sweet potato waffles if you fancy something a bit different.
It will come as no surprise to anyone who has been that they have been voted the Nations Best Breakfast. So who better to go to than The Tavern for a day that is centred around eating typically Breakfast food.
Their Oreo Cookies and Cream Pancakes are sure to leave you drooling at the mouth – just remember, it does contain nuts!
